Italian Government Scholarships

Italian Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) has opened new Call for Application for this year Italian Government MAECI Scholarship. These scholarships are available for international students from a selected list of countries. MAECI Scholarships are fully funded and selection is based on merit, so if you have a great academic or research record and want to study in Italy for free then this is a fantastic opportunity for you.

MAECI Scholarship is available for students from 139 countries to study Masters, PhD, Research Projects and Italian Language Course in public Italian institutes. Apart from international students Italian Foreign residents are also eligible to apply for MAECI Scholarship. There are certain application requirements which must be fulfilled to apply for the scholarship. English proficiency Test is mandatory to apply. Only limited scholarship position are available. Italian Government Scholarship is renewable each year but candidates have to maintain high grades for that.

Because of the low tuition fee and cost of studies, Italy is one of the top country for international students. Currently more than 100,000 students are enrolled at universities Italy. There are 65 public and 30 private universities and 11 research organizations in Italy.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Foreign students and Italian citizens living abroad with appropriate academic qualifications are eligible for this scholarship.
  • Age requirements for Master’s/AFAM/Italian Language Courses is 18-28 years old (except renewals), For PhD Programs 18-30 years old (except renewals) and for Research Projects it is 18-40 years old.
  • Language proficiency:
    Italian-taught courses: B2 level in Italian (CEFR)
    English-taught courses: B2 level in English (CEFR)
    Italian Language Courses: A2 level in Italian (CEFR)
    PhD Programs and Research Projects: No language proficiency required.
  • There may be additional subject specific requirements by the university.

Scholarship Benefits

MAECI Scholarship is fully funded and it provides following benefits,

  • Full tuition fee coverage
  • MAECI scholarship winners will receive a total amount of 9,000 (nine thousand) euros paid in three installments.

Last date to apply for Italian Government’s MAECI scholarship is 14th June 2024.

  • Start your online application at Study In Italy (esteri.it)
  • Register on the official portal.
  • Fill all the application and upload all the required documents.
  • Submit your application before deadline.

Selection Procedure

  • A Committee set up by the competent Italian Diplomatic Mission will evaluate the applications.
  • MAECI scholarship will be given on the basis of a comparative assessment of applications according to the entry requirements and other criteria of merit related to applicant’s cv.
  • The final list of selection will be published on the official website. Scholarship winners will be notified individually.
